Irvin, Calif.-July 25 2012- After last night’s match in Sacramento the Breakers were tied with the Capitals for the first place in the Western Conference. The Breakers returned home tonight in Irvine to beat the Capitals (21-18) and secure sole possession of first place in the conference.

John-Patrick Smith began the night with a solid singles win against Kevin Anderson (5-2). Following Smith’s win, Jana Juricova won her singles set (5-3) against the Capitals Vania King and Coco Vandeweghe after she was subbed in at (1-3). Juricova’s win gave the Breakers a 10-3 lead into halftime.

Vandeweghe and Mark Knowles teamed up to give the Capitals a 5-3 victory in mixed doubles over the Breakers' Lindsay Davenport and Smith.

Davenport and Juricova then partnered together for a close women’s doubles set against King and Vandeweghe, however the Breakers lost (5-3). The teams loss brought the game score to (16-15).

In the last set, the Breakers Smith and Travis Parrott paired up for a hard hitting (5-3) win against the Capitals Anderson and Knowles. Leading the Breakers to victory with a (21-18) match score and moving the Breakers to first place in the Western Conference.

After a night off tomorrow, Thursday, July 26, the Breakers return to action at the Bren Center with the final two matches of the season on Friday, July 27 against the Boston Lobsters and Saturday, July 28 against the Philadelphia Freedoms.
