The Orange County Breakers close their home season out with a victory against the Philadelphia Freedoms
Irvine, Calif- July 28, 2012- The Orange County Breakers won tonight’s final home match of the season 21-15 against the Philadelphia Freedoms at the Bren Events Center in Irvine, CA on the UC Irvine Campus. The Breakers next match will be at the Western Conference Finals on September 14th against the Sacramento Capitals at the Family Circle Tennis Center in Charleston, South Carolina.
In the opening set, the Breakers’ John-Patrick Smith defeated the Freedoms’ Mark Philippoussis in the men’s singles set 5-2.
Jana Juricova was impressive in her singles showdown with Karolina Pliskova, Juricova tried to rally for the Breakers but Pliskova edged her 5-4.
Jana Juricova and Travis Parrott lost a tough doubles match 5-2 against Philadelphia’s Kristyna Pliskova and Jordan Kerr. Juricova was substituted in for Davenport when the Breakers were down 3-1 but unfortunately the Breakers could not make a comeback and were defeated 5-2.
The pair’s loss gave the Freedoms a 12-11 lead against the Breakers.
Davenport then partnered with Juricova in the women’s doubles set for a 5-3 victory against the Pliskova twins. The Breakers’ win put them ahead 16-15 going into the final set.
The Breakers' Travis Parrott and John-Patrick Smith finished the night with a dominating 5-0 win over the Freedoms’ men’s doubles tandem of Philippoussis and Jordan Kerr. The men’s victory gave Orange County their final win on their home court 21-15.
